Media coverage of climate change
Climate change is not just a topical issue in industrial countries, but in developing countries too. Since 1996, the number of press articles on the issue has increased by a factor of between four and eight. This is indicated by the colour-coding in dark blue / dark green / dark yellow. *
European and North American countries show a similar pattern of media attention, as they evidently orient their coverage to events such as climate conferences or status reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The situation is different in other parts of the world: globally there is much less unanimity of coverage.
In the course of the study, the CliSAP research group "Media Constructions of Climate Change“ based around junior professor Mike S. Schaefer analysed quality newspapers from 26 countries.
