CliSAP successfully finished in 2018. Climate research continues in the Cluster of Excellence "CLICCS".

Welcoming the new MSc Students!

Last week marked day one for fourteen newcomers to the international master’s degree program at the School of Integrated Climate System Sciences (SICSS).

The young climate researchers hail from China, India, the US, Taiwan, and Germany. They will be joined for one semester by two visiting students from Russia.

Semester kickoff included a week full of orientation activities. Prof. Hermann Held, head of the SICSS, welcomed the new students on campus. In order to help them find their bearings, the office team guided them through the week, introducing the school’s services, facilities, curriculum, and teaching staff.

Katja Grannis, coordinator of the master’s program, conducted an intercultural training unit. Raising awareness of local regulations, customs, and peculiarities, the training aims to help international students ease in smoothly at the graduate school and in Hamburg. During a rally, organized by third-semester master’s students, the group explored Universität Hamburg’s campus. Besides, several lectures provided information about CliSAP’s climate database and climate data visualization.

Orientation ended with a particular highlight: A trip to the North Sea. Andreas Hadenfeldt, SICSS lecturer and experienced mudflat tour guide, showed the newcomers special attractions of the North Frisian Wadden Sea.

We wish all new students a very happy and successful first semester at the SICSS!
