CliSAP successfully finished in 2018. Climate research continues in the Cluster of Excellence "CLICCS".

How to become a mentor

All CliSAP Principle Investigators and CliSAP Research Group Leaders are asked and encouraged to actively promote the professional development of junior researchers.
You can imagine to share your life experience, formal knowledge and also your valuable informal knowledge with a younger researcher at postdoc-level at the beginning of his or her career? You are willing to become involved in a mentoring relationship?
If this applies to you, we are very pleased to welcome you as a mentor. To participate in COM please contact the CliSAP Equal Opportunity Coordinator.

Benefit as a Mentor by:

  • becoming actively involved in the promotion of young reseachers
  • establishing new contacts and expanding your own network
  • gaining opportunity to reflect on your own practice
  • expanding your advisory expertise and leadership skills

What is expected from a Mentor?

  • to conduct frequent meetings with the mentee (as frequent as necessary but for the beginning of the postdoc phase we suggest at least every second month)
  • participate in yearly meeting of mentors, mentees and the COM Team and provide feedback
  • Characteristics of a good mentor are very well described in Burroughs Wellcome Fund and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (2006): Accessibility, Empathy, Open-mindedness, Consistency, Patience, Honesty, Savvy. More
