CliSAP successfully finished in 2018. Climate research continues in the Cluster of Excellence "CLICCS".

Participants of Workshop on Numerical Methods for Scale Interactions 2011

Workshops are our way to communicate our results and to evolve our knowledge in the scientific community. We are organizing workshops, minisymposia and meetings.

Workshop on Numerical Methods for Scale-Interactions 2011

Scale interaction between small-scale turbulent mixing at cloud boundaries and large-scale cloud development, or between small-scale topographic perturbation and large-scale intra-glacial fractures, or other geoscientific phenomena like hurricanes, etc. require adequate numerical representation. In this workshop experts from computational sciences and geosciences interact closely to develop and extend existing numerical methods for such phenomena.

Workshop "Kathastrophenmathematik" am Tag der Talente

After the devastating tsunami on Boxing Day 2004 many people are aware of this natural phenomenon. Less well known is the fact that tsunamis can hit almost all coasts worldwide. Therefore, warning capacities are necessary to protect life and properties. In this workshop with school students, we started to understand the phenomenon, and performed experiments measuring the wave dispersion velocity. From this, we explored a mathematical model, which provided us a tool to forecast tsunamis.
