Xu Liang on Challenges and Opportunities of Large-Scale Land Surface Modeling for Climate Studies

05.06.2014

We welcome Xu Liang from the University of Pittsburgh for a seminar and short visit at the Institute of Soil Science and the KlimaCampus, 23-24 Jun. Xu Liang is presenting a talk entitled: Challenges and Opportunities of Large-Scale Land Surface Modeling for Climate Studies: A Personal Perspective. Xu Liang’s perspectives on land surface modeling are informed by her development of the Variable-Infiltration Capacity (VIC) land surface water modeling scheme (Liang et al, 1994). This scheme has since been adapted to many purposes within the climate modeling community, including its use in modeling methane fluxes from West Siberia’s wetlands. More information regarding Xu Liang’s present research directions can be found on her website.
