Workshop: The first coordination meeting of German Climate Data Centres

On 18 September, the first coordination meeting of several German Climate Data Centres was held hosted by the Integrated Climate Data Center (ICDC) at CEN of the University of Hamburg.

Is it possible to develop a comon data space that is shared by all participating centers?
This question and others have been discussed at Grindelberg 5.

In this workshop, there was a first information exchange on activities and objectives of the individual data centers, which provided a good overview of the variety of national data landscape with a focus on climate observations.

Although the background and history of the individual centers are very different, there are a surprisingly large similarity in the objectives, such as a consistent collection of meta-information and a simple user-oriented provision of climate observations.

Based on this, first ideas for possible collaborations and a vision of a common data space were developed with the aim to create a national climate data concept together that is shared by all participating centers. To pursue this aim, a next meeting is planned in six months, where the work on these subjects can be continued.

Representatives of the data centres of the BSH (Hamburg), the DKRZ (Hamburg), various sites of the DWD (maritime weather Hamburg, Offenbach), of EUMETSAT, the GEOMAR (Kiel), the HZG (Geesthacht), as well as of PANGEA (Bremen) were present.
