Non-State Actors in Climate Politics: Research Cooperation Continues

Daniele Vieira, doctoral candidate at CliSAP´s School of Integrated Climate System Sciences (SICSS), stays as a guest short-term scholar during September and October at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She will be working with Prof. Simone Pulver of the department of Environmental Studies, who was a guest at CliSAP last year and who collaborates with CliSAP´s Co-Chair Prof. Anita Engels.

Fossil fuels, produced in refineries like this, are still mostly used on auto markets.

Daniele Vieira conducts research on Brasil´s private sectors response to alternative fuel vehicles.

Among other things, Simone Pulver develops research about the engagement of non-state actors, such as firms, in climate change politics. She also works about organizational responses to climate change in Brazil and India.

During the two-month stay, Daniele Vieira will be working on the final research design of her doctoral thesis. She will also explore her second field trip data results in order to evaluate how mitigation occurred in the Brazilian auto industry through the advent of flex-fuel vehicles (FFV) – a type of vehicle that is able to use ethanol as well as gasoline. Her larger goal is to explain the private sector´s role in diffusing the FFV technology in Brazil. Daniele Vieira expects to profit by this exchange for the advancement of her thesis at this final stage.
