In addition to the four research topics, a part of the budget of the cluster of excellence is earmarked for integrated activities and individual new projects and is awarded on a competitive basis. During the past months 35 proposals were submitted. Almost 2/3 of these proposals have been chosen to receive funding.
The funding decision was based on an internal and external reviewing process led by the noted climate researcher, Prof. Dr. Hartmut Graßl, and were awarded according to their potential for innovation, integration and strategic focusing of the research at the KlimaCampus.
As Prof. Martin Claussen, from the Meteorological Institute of the University and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology explained, the goal is to create new transdisciplinary working groups in order to gain new knowledge for climate research. Thus, some of the new projects also include scientists from the fields of economics and social sciences.
