Call for Applications: OTGA/VLIZ Training Course: Research Cruise Planning and Management

The period for applications for the Training Course on Research Cruise Planning and Management is now open until 14 September 2018. This course provides an overview of requirements for organizing a Research Cruise within a project and/or submitting a request for ship time. The course takes place mainly in a classroom but includes a visit to a Marine station and a research vessel, where participants will be introduced to sampling equipment and marine research infrastructure used for onboard research, including demonstrations of the use and maintenance of marine sampling equipment, oceanographic (biological, chemical and physical data) sampling, data collection and data management.

Ocean Biogeochemical Modeller @ NOC (Southampton/Liverpool, UK)

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is looking to hire an experience marine biogeochemistry modeller for an indefinite-term position. The successful candidate will work on the analysis of North Atlantic Biogeochemistry (BGC) and its role in climate in the CLASS project. Applicants are required to have experience in analyzing ocean biogeochemical models and observations, ideally in a climate or wide earth systems context and be skilled in using analysis software. She/he will have a strong 1st degree in a numerate scientific or mathematics discipline and have achieved PHD in a numerate environmental science discipline.

Postdoc in Sea Surface Salinity, pCO2, and Upper Ocean Mixing @University of Hawaii (Manoa, USA)

The University of Hawaii at Manoa invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position starting Fall 2018 to examine the relationship between sea surface salinity and pCO2 as part of the second Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study (SPURS-2). The candidate will be in charge of reducing and analyzing data collected as part of the SPURS-2 campaign. Applicants should have a PhD in Oceanography, Biochemistry or a related field. They should be experienced in carbonate chemistry and upper ocean physics as well as analyzing large datasets, such as those from satellite remote sensing.

The University of São Paulo has vacancies for postdoctoral fellowships in social and environmental sciences. São Paulo Research Foundation-FAPESP postdoctoral positions are available at USP (Brazil) to integrate the research team that will be working in the Project GLOCULL - Globally and Locally-sustainable Food-Water-Energy Innovation in Urban Living Labs supported by the Belmont Forum and JPI Urban Europe as part of the Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative – SUGI . The fellowships will be for 24 months and will follow the norms of the São Paulo Research Foundation–FAPESP.
