Now more than ever it's critical that scientists vividly communicate the importance of their work with broader audiences. Do you want to share your science with the public in a clear and engaging way? Do you want to foster scientific dialogue with policy makers? Do you have an interview coming up with a journalist and want some pointers? During the webinar you'll learn how to: identify an audience that's right for you, prepare clear and compelling remarks that will resonate with that audience and address controversial topics or potentially unreceptive audiences.

Sustainability week of action at Universität Hamburg, 30 May-5 June 2017 *only for UHH members*

For this year’s Sustainability week of action the Center for a Sustainable University (KNU) together with diverse partners prepares a multifaceted program. You are invited to place your courses in the first week of June under the topic of sustainability and report them to the KNU.

Celebrating 10 years of BONUS, 3-4 May 2017, Helsinki

BONUS, the joint Baltic Sea research and development programme, was founded in 2007 and will now celebrate the achievements of the first decade. Among the participants will be members of our community ranging from the BONUS Steering Committee, Advisory Board and Project Coordinators Forum, to the wider researchers community, industry, end-users and other stakeholders.

European Maritime Day 2017, 18-19 May 2017, Poole, UK

European Maritime Day is the annual meeting point for Europe’s maritime community to network, discuss and forge joint action. The EMD 2017 conference and exhibition will be held on 18-19 May 2017 in Poole. Registration for the conference is now open.

11th Baltic Sea Science Congress, 12-16 June 2017, Rostock

The biennial Baltic Sea Science Congress (BSSC) was established 20 years ago, joining the research communities of Baltic Marine Biologists, Baltic Marine Geologists and the Conference of Baltic Oceanographers and is, until today, the main international forum addressing a broad interdisciplinary spectrum of Baltic Sea research. This year’s conference “Living along gradients: past, present, future” is hosted by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research and the University of Rostock. Early registration deadline: 31 March 2017

National Open Access Contact Point

The Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany decided to establish a "National Open-Access Contact Point". It will support universities and research institutes to prepare the transformation of scientific journals into open access.

Funding

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Program Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE)

RISE supports intersectoral and international mobility by sending and receiving scientific, technical and administrative staff. The program aims at promoting the collaboration between academic and non-academic institutions as well as between EU member states and third countries. Funding will be provided for "Early Stage Researchers" (ESR) and "Experienced Researchers" (ER) on the basis of a joint research and/or innovation project. Application deadline: 5 April 2017.

EU: Bekanntmachung zur Förderung der Wissenschaftlich-Technologischen Zusammenarbeit mit Neuseeland *Information only in German*

Das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) hat eine Bekanntmachung zur Förderung der Wissenschaftlich-Technologischen Zusammenarbeit (WTZ) mit Neuseeland veröffentlicht. Das Programm unterstützt die bilaterale Kooperation zwischen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern in Neuseeland und Deutschland durch gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte. Es sollen sowohl bestehende Kooperationen ausgebaut, als auch neue Projektkooperationen initiiert werden. Gefördert werden können Projekte u.a. im Bereich der Gesundheitsforschung, den Umweltwissenschaften und der Geo-, Meeres- und Polarforschung. Bewerbungsfrist: 20. April 2017

JSPS-Forschungskurzstipendien für Doktoranden und Postdoktoranden nach Japan *Information only in German*

Ziel des Programms ist es, in Zusammenarbeit mit der Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) hochqualifizierten promovierten deutschen Nachwuchswissenschaftlern sowie Doktoranden einen kurzfristigen Forschungsaufenthalt an Universitäten und ausgewählten Forschungseinrichtungen in Japan zu ermöglichen. EMS Tromp Award for an outstanding achievement in biometeorology

Anybody having published a scientific paper in the field of biometeorology and resident in Europe is eligible to apply for the award. The prize includes $US 1,000 and travel expenses to attend the EMS Annual Meeting in Dublin. Application deadline: 15 May 2017

Open Positions

5 Positions available at the CNRS - Theoretical and Experimental Ecology Station (SETE) in Moulis, France

As part of CNRS-SETE, the Centre for Biodiversity Theory and Modelling, more specifically the Ecological Networks and Global Change group which focuses its research on developing theories and experimental manipulations on the effects of different components of global change on biodiversity, network structure and dynamics, and ecosystem functioning, is seeking:

1. A Postdoc in Theoretical Ecology. The applicant will work on linking temperature-dependent community dynamics and metacommunity theory. (Duration of the contract - 3 years).

2. A Postdoc in Experimental Aquatic Ecology. The applicant will focus on biodiversity and community structure and dynamics in mesocosm experiments (Duration of the contract - 3 years).

3. A Postdoc in Ecological Meta-Analysis. The applicant will analyse already existing data on the isolated and combined effects of climatic warming and habitat fragmentation (Duration of the contract - 2 years).

4. A PhD student in Experimental Aquatic Ecology. The applicant will work on the effects of warming and fragmentation on ecosystem functioning on pelagic mesocosm experiments (Duration of the contract - 3 years).

5. A Technician in Experimental Aquatic Ecology. The applicant will work on the sampling and maintenance of the mesocosm experiment (Duration of the contract - 4 years).
