On June 9th 2017 the first Biology Conference of Doctoral Candidates (BCDC) took place in Hamburg. The conference was initiated by biology PhD students from the Universität Hamburg to better connect students from different biological institutions at the university. More than 100 PhD students participated in the meeting, among them also students from the SICSS graduate school.
The conference program included oral and poster presentations by PhD students, as well as two keynote talks by Pamela Hines, a senior editor at Science Magazine and by Dirk Hans, a biologist and science communicator.
With the help of SICSS the conference was realized without costs for participating students, allowing early career scientists to gain conference experience.
