Benthic nitrogen turnover processes in coastal sediments in the Black-, North Sea and Wadden Sea

Research interests

Sediments play an important role in nitrogen loss and the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O) emission. The microbial turnover processes in the sediment are numerous and their interactions still poorly understood. The focuses of my PhD-thesis are on the spatial distribution of nitrogen deficit (denitrification, anammox) and the interplay of benthic remineralization on the current N-budget in sediments.
