Research interests

The main scientific goal of Lars as researcher and teacher is to improve the understanding of the role of soils in the climate system. He focuses his research and education on the interconnected soil and vegetation processes and their coupling to the atmosphere and the hydrosphere. Over the last 14 years, Lars has concentrated his work on permafrost-affected landscapes of the Arctic as well as pristine and anthropogenically degraded peatlands of different climate zones (e.g., in Russia, Finland, Argentina, Northern Germany).
