"MS Wissenschaft" casts off: Minister Schavan opens exhibition

Federal Research Minister Annette Schavan opened the exhibition "Zukunftsprojekt Erde" (Future Earth) on the "MS Wissenschaft" in Berlin today. One of the presentations on board is the "Urban Climate Architect" by the Cluster of Excellence CliSAP.

With a spirited thrust of the obligatory bottle of champagne the minister launched the exhibition ship and wished it a good voyage and many visitors. Starting today, the ship will be underway in Germany and Austria for almost five months. This year, the focus on the floating science center is the topic sustainability: eco-friendly washing and cleaning with renewable resources, climate change, coastal defense, biodiversity and sustainable fisheries. Visitors can inform themselves interactively at around 40 different stands.

CliSAP is on board with the so-called "Urban Climate Architect". At a multi-touch table the visitors can build houses, offices, industrial areas and parks with their fingertips, creating a climate-optimized city. Population growth and the urgent need for jobs present additional challenges to the players.

By mid-October the "MS Wissenschaft" will have visited 36 cities. In Hamburg, the exhibition ship will tie up in the Traditional Ship Harbor at Sandtor Pier. Admission is free.
