Dialogue Between Science and Practice


Topics like the Energy Transition or adapting to climate change tend to bring together actors from disparate academic and social groups. The first comprehensive report on transdisciplinarity was recently released on behalf of the Climate Service Center 2.0, a project the sociologist of science Dr. Simone Rödder from the Cluster of Excellence CliSAP was also involved in. In an interview, she and her co-authors discuss the challenges inherent in communicating across disciplinary borders.

Question: What makes transdisciplinarity so difficult?

Dr. Simone Rödder: Trying to integrate science and practice always means dealing with fundamental conflicts – for example, between a practical orientation and compatibility with different scientific fields.
