The first reforestation action took place on a very rainy day in a muddy field near Bönebüttel last winter (we reported on it). Yesterday the sun of the warmest April since 1890 shone on a northern German springtime idyll.
After a short briefing on forest management and on the significance of trees for storing carbon dioxide, the kids helped plant oaks, beeches, maples, hornbeams, sloes and willows.
The "Initiative Pro Klima"was started by the petroleum merchant company Mabanaft and its subsidiaries in 2008. Along with the reforestation in cooperation with the provincial forest service of Schleswig-Holstein, the initiative also is supporting the research work of Dr. Christian Klepp from the KlimaCampus for three years.
