On Friday, 21 November, the teams from Buchholz, Hamburg, Jever, Kiel, Rostock und Uetersen - some with their teachers and parents - came to the ZMAW to present their results in the youth competition "Research at Sea 2008". During summer vacation, each team spent a week on board the "Aldebaran" to make observations at sea and carry out experiments.
The jury praised the high quality of the projects and presentations in this year. First prize was awarded to the group from Rostock with the topic "Pingers: An efficient method for reducing by-catch of porpoises in noisy waters?" The Rostock group was not able to answer this question definitively, but their concept, execution, evaluation and presentation were exemplary.
Since 2005 the ZMAW has held the youth competition "Research at Sea", which is carried out by "Aldebaran Marine Research & Broadcast".
